Nippi and 11 other joint-development team companies received a letter of appreciation from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for the successful operation of the Engineering Testing Satellite VIII (ETS-VIII, aka “KIKU-8” in Japanese) launched December 2006. Nippi joined in designing and manufacturing the entire LDREX-2, a half-size in-orbit verification test model of the KIKU-8-loaded Large Deployable Reflector (LDR). The LDREX-2 was successfully tested when launched in October 2006, ahead of the KIKU-8, by the Arian-V.
